WordPress.org vs Wix

The features offered by Wix and WordPress are suitable for most users, whether they desire to build blogs or e-commerce sites for advertising their local businesses. A plug-in or an app can extend the capabilities of your site if a feature isn’t native to either platform.

There are a variety of website builders available, and which one is best for you depends on your needs and goals.

A comparison of WordPress and Wix

In our analysis of the best website builders, both Wix and WordPress ranked well. Wix combines hosting and website creation into one monthly fee. Hosting your site with WordPress.org is free, but you have to pay a hosting company. Even though Wix is easy to use, it cannot compete with WordPress.org when it comes to customization. The WordPress.org platform has a learning curve that is not present in Wix.

In contrast to WordPress.com, WordPress.org requires its own hosting, whereas WordPress.com hosts the site itself.

Price

Among the pricing options offered by Wix are a free plan and a Business VIP plan that costs $59 a month. Paid plans offer more features and remove the ads, while the free plan includes basic features. You will need to pay for hosting, a domain name, and any additional themes or plug-ins if you want to use WordPress.org. The CMS is free to use, but you’ll need to pay for a domain name, hosting, and additional themes. There are free and paid plans available on WordPress.com, but it is not open source.

A Wix website can be built and hosted using Wix’s website builder, while WordPress offers more flexibility and control through its open source platform and extensive plugin library, regardless of whether it is a .org domain or .com domain. In this case, based on your budget and personal needs, you will need to choose the option that is best for you.

Providing custom solutions

The customization options offered by WordPress are much greater than those offered by Wix. You’ll find tens of thousands of plug-ins for WordPress.org, because it powers most of the internet. Below, we’ll go into more detail.

A collection of themes and templates

WordPress and Wix both offer many themes and templates for creating a website. Using Wix’s drag-and-drop editor and design elements, you can customize a variety of free and premium templates. More design options and higher quality are generally offered by premium templates.

There are also free and premium templates available in WordPress, as well as the ability to add your own custom theme to the platform using code or use external themes and templates. There are many professionally designed and maintained themes and templates available with WordPress. Both platforms, however, offer varying quality themes and templates.

Add-ons, plug-ins, and apps

With Wix, you can add more features and functionality to your website by using plug-ins, apps, and add-ons. Social media integration, contact forms, and online booking are examples of these options. Wix App Market provides easy access to the tools and makes it easy to install them on your website. There are some free tools and others that require a fee to use.

A range of features and functionality can also be added to your website using WordPress plug-ins. Contact forms, e-commerce, SEO, and e-commerce plug-ins are among the thousands of free and premium plug-ins available. The plug-ins available for WordPress are supported and updated by a large developer community.

The development of custom HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code

Wix allows you to use custom HTML and CSS, contrary to popular belief. Wix calls this a Custom Element. Wix won’t provide support for custom elements that aren’t designed by them. You are limited to the templates, design elements and apps offered by Wix for the design and functionality of your website.

On the other hand, WordPress allows you to use custom HTML, CSS, and JavaScript without any limitations. Code languages enable you to customize your website’s design and functionality beyond what themes and plug-ins offer.

With knowledge of coding, you can give your website a lot of control and flexibility. However, we must keep in mind that using custom code requires a certain level of knowledge and skill, so it may not be appropriate for everyone.

What Is Easier To Use?

According to most users, Wix is easier to use than WordPress. With Wix, anyone can create a professional-looking website without coding experience using drag-and-drop tools and predesigned templates.

In contrast, WordPress is a content management system that requires some technical knowledge to use effectively. WordPress can be used without knowing how to code, however, customizing your website beyond the options provided by themes and plug-ins may be more challenging.

Your specific needs and skills will determine the ease of use. Using Wix may be the better choice if you’re looking for a simple platform that allows you to create a website quickly and easily. The platform can be powerful and flexible if you invest time and effort into learning how to use it, or if you have specific needs that require more customization options.

Site builders with drag-and-drop functionality

With Wix, users can create and customize their websites using a drag-and-drop editor. Text, images, and media can be moved around the page with the drag-and-drop editor, and their appearance can be customized. With no coding knowledge required, anyone can create a professional-looking website.

As part of its core functionality, WordPress does not include a drag-and-drop editor. However, you can customize your website’s layout and design with drag-and-drop page builders available in WordPress plug-ins and themes. For those without coding knowledge, these drag-and-drop page builders may not be as user-friendly as Wix’s.

Customer Support

Documentation and tutorials are available on the WordPress website to assist users in getting started and troubleshooting issues. Through forums and online groups, it also has a huge community of users available for support and assistance. Moreover, many WordPress themes and plug-ins offer their own support options, such as documentation and FAQs.

Wix offers 24/7 customer support on all of its paid plans, including a VIP level that offers priority service. Whether you’re running a website or an e-commerce business, the VIP level is available to you. In addition, users will find tutorials and FAQs with the most recent updates in the knowledge base.

User Experience

Wix is generally known for its ease of use and intuitive interface, while WordPress can be more complex for beginners but offers more customization options for those willing to invest the time. Here’s what we’ll cover in more detail.

Mobile-Friendliness

Neither WordPress nor Wix has a mobile-specific theme, which means they are both compatible with smartphones and tablets.

In addition to producing responsive templates and design elements, Wix produces mobile-friendly templates. You can also create a separate mobile version of your website or hide certain elements on mobile devices with Wix’s mobile-specific design options.

WordPress themes are mobile-friendly and responsive, which means they will adapt their design to fit a variety of screens. With WordPress’ mobile-specific plug-ins, you can also optimize the mobile experience of your website.

Page Speed

In terms of user experience, the speed at which a website loads and performs is an important aspect.

Using Wix’s proprietary hosting platform, which is optimized for the platform’s templates and design elements, Wix claims to offer fast page loading speeds. As well as the number and size of elements on the page, external apps and integrations can also affect the loading speed of a Wix website.

The page load speed of a WordPress website can vary based on the hosting provider and the website’s specific configuration since WordPress is a content management system that can be used with a variety of platforms. Plug-ins and external integrations can also affect the performance of WordPress websites based on the number and size of elements on the page.

SEO and Digital Marketing: Which Is Better?

In terms of SEO and digital marketing, both Wix and WordPress have a variety of features that can be useful. In general, Wix is considered a good platform to use for basic SEO and marketing, since it allows you to customize page titles and descriptions, add alt tags to images, and integrate with Google Analytics. You may not be able to implement as many advanced SEO and marketing features with it as you can with WordPress, and you may not be able to customize or optimize your website as much as you can with WordPress.

SEO and marketing professionals generally consider WordPress to be more powerful and flexible than other platforms. Among the features it offers are built-in SEO tools and plug-ins, as well as tools for optimizing your site for search engines, adding alt tags to images, and integrating with Google Analytics.

WordPress also has a large developer community, so many plug-ins and custom SEO and marketing solutions are available. In terms of SEO and digital marketing, both Wix and WordPress offer a variety of features, but WordPress is generally considered more powerful and flexible.

What do we choose?

In our opinion WordPress is a hands down better platform in almost every case. If you are running a professional business or care about your online presence you should not be using Wix. WordPress outperforms Wix when it comes to speed, customization, performance and Google ranking. Wix can be OK if your website is just for fun or maybe a personal blog but it is not recommended for any website you want to scale.

If you are working with a web designer or digital marketing company and they try to build you a wix website, run. The company is simply being cheap and uses prebuilt templates for all their clients.
